It has about a foot or so of loose muck/silt that I think will suck up pretty nicely. It is very, very solid probing with a measure stick, and is pretty consistently 8 feet deep all way around the pond. We live in an area with a lot of flat rock, you can find it in all the nearby creeks, and in our ditch by the road. I’ve been aerating (two bottom diffused) the past 5 years since we bought the property and using bacteria, it has cleaned up a lot. I’m guessing it won’t negatively impact the pump? Any difference between 1.5” vs 2” at the nozzle? From the nozzle, I’ll probably have a 3 to 6 foot 3” pvc pipe to a T joint or something with a 1 to 2 foot pvc capped with about ¾ inch holes drilled for a sort of vacuum end.ĭoes this setup sound feasible? Am I correct in reducing 3” to 1.5 or 2” to the nozzle. And then however long 3” hose I need to pump out over the pond bank. I’ll have a short 3” discharge hose from the pump that I’ll have to reduce to 1.5” or 2” to the suction nozzle. I’ll probably only need a few feet of 3” intake hose. So, I’ll have a 3” trash pump that I’ll put on my floating dock so it can move with me as needed. This trash pump seems to have enough power and is affordable.

I’ve been reading through the forum, trying to piece together the information I need, with a lot coming from Driver Cody’s posts. I think I have the pump and nozzle set, looking for guidance on hosing sizes. Very little middle ground.TLDR: Looking to build a Gold/Muck dredge using Venturi effect. Perfectly blind, just the sound of the engine if it is laboring right. Listening to the guys that do the dredge at Storm lake, it sounds like that is tough feeding that thing. I think it would get real tiresome handling the hose to feed just the right amount of water and silt into the heavy hose. You can use one of these diaphragm pumps if you want. That would throw a lot of stuff in a hurry. There was a deal made that used air and venturi idea to suck water and mud out of concrete forms that got rained in before concrete gets poured. It kept clear for about 4 years and slowly silted in. Posted 15:03 (#5331969 - in reply to #5331838) Subject: RE: Small sand/mud dredge setup

Isn't the hole going to be back full shortly? They will pump stuff that will hardly flow. I use them for pumping out grain elevator basements. I have a couple of the 3 inch diaphragm pumps. There will be a venturi in the suction line where the pump outlet attaches to create the suction. Pump will have a floating intake and suck just water. Lots of pumps for sale but some say trash or dredge but have a cast iron impeller. I was thinking of a 3" or 4" trash pump or dredge pump with some sort of high pressure nozzle to stir things up. I am clearing out material to make access from a river to the bank. I assume I need a chrome or hardened steel impeller and wear plate because of the sand and small gravel. I need to do some small scale sand and mud dredging. Posted 09:53 (#5331580) Subject: Small sand/mud dredge setup Small sand/mud dredge setup Jump to page : 1 Now viewing page 1
